easyjet unable to check in passengers

There aren't many things an airline's web site has to do.  Selling tickets is top, followed by online checkin.  Perhaps also to issue shrill demands about "advanced passenger information", and force known passengers to repeatedly type in the same details about themselves.

Here is a case of easyjet failing to do online checkin.  Notice the lack of any attempt to get the specific reason for the error to the customer.  A web lackey has been tasked with listing a few reasons why checkin might fail, and then whatever error, perhaps generic, perhaps more specific, is "handled" with this message.

Imagine ordering food in a restaurant, and the waiter says "sorry, we can't take your order because the chef is on strike, or we don't have the ingredients for what you've ordered, or you do not meet the dress code for this restaurant, or the table you occupy is reserved, or we are dealing with a vermin problem in our food stores, or perhaps for a different reason".  Each specific reason, if applicable, might suggest a different course of action, so it would be useful to know which one.  But of course the situation would never arise, because they would tell you the specific reason, because all waiters and waitresses are cognitively superior to the sum of Easyjet's software development, web, customer IT, and suchlike teams.

This is the second time in a row Easyjet's checkin has failed for me; the last time was a couple of weeks ago.

For reference, the text of the below screenshot is:

Sorry, we have been unable to complete check in

[ID: 12000388-00DF-CB58-5A5F-9086B1CE3361]

We haven’t been able to complete check in at this time; please try again later. This happen because of several reasons:

  • A Child must be less than 16 years old at the date of the first flight of the booking.
  • The document expiry date should not be less than the last flight date of the booking.
  • Complete APIS details of all the passengers.
  • Age cannot be less than 2 years for a child passenger.
  • Any adult with an accompanying infant must be aged 16 or more on the outbound flight date.
  • Unable to retrieve Infant details.

If none of the above is applicable and you are still unable to check in, don’t worry. Please go to the Bag Drop desks at the airport on the day of travel where our staff will help you
